Purple and White

Hello and Happy Monday!

This week I am bringing you some images I edited from a location shoot with Dave Edkins recently. I wanted to try out two new dresses I had bought on Vinted that I hadn't had chance to use on shoots yet. We were at Beech Caves to use the graffiti to shoot some stuff for Nobody Apparel (you can get 25% off with the code Misuzu25 by the way) but we have shot at the caves quite a lot over the years for a number of different styles. I love how we still use it as a location after all these years and manage to get new and creative images every time.

Before I show you the images, don't forget to give Dave a follow wherever you are on the internet if you're not already. Here are his links for the various platforms: Instagram, Threads, PurplePort and E-photozine. As always, Dave shoots on a Nikon D850 camera.

Now... on to the images.

Purple Dress

So I bought this pretty purple velvet dress from Vinted and it's lovely (I really love a bit of velvet). It fits well and it's a lovely material but... the strap is just super weird. It is a halter neck dress but the strap seems to come from under the armpits and it looks strange regardless of how you try to wear it. Me and Dave decided to give it a go anyway, obviously. I think these images came out really nicely and I bet if I hadn't mentioned the weird strap, you wouldn't have noticed it, but because I have mentioned it you will most definitely notice it and you'll know exactly what I mean.

Tree

There is a cool fallen tree with huge roots at Beech Caves and it's been there for a while. I suspect that one day I will go there and it won't be there anymore. But for now, it's a feature of the location that I particularly like and enjoy using for photography. Where the tree is in the entrance of one of the caves, the light hits it nicely then falls off quite quickly behind it which works really well:

As always, here is a colour vs black and white comparison. I think this dress works really well in a monochrome image:

Graffiti

Of course the graffiti in the caves was great for shooting in the Nobody Apparel gear as I mentioned at the start of this post, but I think it also worked quite nicely with this dress too.

In seriousness, check out the weird straps on this dress... like, why are they coming from there, it's just weird. It works better in the first image with my arms raised, but less so in the second with the arms down. Very strange and it annoys me because I otherwise love the dress:

Another colour vs monochrome comparison... I really like both of these shots. I think I slightly prefer the colour version here because there happened to be some purple graffiti behind me (which wasn't intentional but sometimes things just work out like that in photography), but I think it looks very strong in black and white too:

Hair

And of course a few shots showing off my hair, because why not:

White Dress

Now for the white dress. This is a lovely grecian style dress that I also bought from Vinted and have had for quite a while. I told Dave about it ages ago but I either forgot to bring it with me to shoots or I bought it with me and we just forgot to shoot with it (or didn't get around to it as we have too many ideas and not enough time). I'm actually really glad that we hadn't shot with it before because this setting and the light were just perfect. If I'm being honest, I doubt I'll use this dress again now because I feel like these images are just amazing and I won't get anything I love this much with it again. It's probably best to just retire it now.

Magic

There's something about these shots that have a mystical and magical quality to them. Almost like an elven princess in the woodland. Considering I favour darker and moodier images, it's is a huge change for me to go for something so bright... but I'm just obsessed with these:

This next image is my absolute favourite from the day. I initially only did the monochrome conversion to use as the featured image to the post, but I actually love it and had to put it in the main blog as well. I love images that you don't think are all that special when you see them on the back of the camera but then when you come to edit, you just see something different and it ends up being your favourite image from the day. This was one of those images:

Black and White

I didn't do too many monochrome edits from this set because I think the green of the woodland complimented the outfit and looked too magical to get rid of. However, a couple of shots in the bright sun looked really cool converted to black and white. It made the trees look a lot darker and creepier which contrasts nicely with the fairy tale aspect of the dress:

A few more shots

I couldn't think of any other ways to split these images into more sections, as they're all pretty similar, but I really liked so many of them and didn't want to have to choose. Here are the last few images, starting with one that I gave a more pink tone to:

And to finish, a few more of the brighter, greener images showing the dress off in full length. In that middle image, you'd never know I was wearing leggings and Dr Martens under the dress. These all turned out so well and I'm super happy with them!

That's all from me for today. I hope you enjoyed looking at these images as much as I enjoyed modelling and editing them.

I look forward to writing to you again next week.
