Hello and Happy Monday!
This week, I'm bringing you a selection of images taken in front of a red curtain on a shoot with Dave Edkins at the Asylum Art Gallery in Wolverhampton. As it's getting closer to December, and I'm starting to feel festive, I thought a post featuring the colour red was a good way to ease into the Christmas spirit!
More of Dave's work can be found on the following links: Instagram, Threads, PurplePort, and E-photozine. Definitely go and give him a follow on any of these platforms!
Asylum is a studio located at the top floor of a building that contains many artist studios creating various styles of art. It's a lovely place full of creativity and just walking through the building was super interesting. The studio space itself is a small room with several different coloured backgrounds and a few lights for studio work. But there is a lovely window that gave us pretty wonderful light, even though the day wasn't the brightest. The red curtain that is hung in the window, mixed with the natural light falling into the room made for some lovely images and I wanted to share them with you all.
These photos were all taken by Dave Edkins and edited by me. Dave shoots on a Nikon D850.
Fashion Nude
For the first few shots we took I was still wearing my leggings as we were just testing the light, but this first shot came out so lovely that it ended up being one of those test shots that is one of your favourite shots from the entire set! We decided to add in the white shirt to do some fashion nude shots and the way the light was hitting my body here just really works well with the deep red of the curtain behind me.
White Shirt
Then moving onto some (mostly) implied nude shots with the shite shirt: this shirt works well for those more closed in poses as well as open ones, because it's oversized meaning I can fully wrap it around me. I think this type of pose works well with the one sided window light.
Colour Vs Black & White
I have three images here that I wanted to share both the colour and the black and white versions of. I find it interesting that all of these shots still look so strong in monochrome, even though the main feature in the colour versions is the red curtain behind me (that obviously becomes a non-existent part of the images once it's converted to black and white).
This first one is a really beautiful portrait. Dave always manages to capture portraits of me that I really love (I don't know how he does it and he won't tell me, he just says he presses the button and it just happens). But the way the light is hitting me here, with the pose looking up, it has a really strong and powerful look.
This next shot is a bit more dreamy, but again, when you take the colour out of it, it changes the shot completely for me. I think that's because it feels a bit more timeless. And as you've probably noticed in a lot of my shots, I'm a fan of posing with my hands in my hair.
And then an implied nude with the white shirt. I loved shooting in that patch of light by the red curtain. And these three images all look completely different, even though they were shot in succession.
Mirror
And finally, here are some shots we got using a mirror. Shooting with a mirror can look really effective but is quite difficult to get it right. When I was on the floor, the light wasn't hitting me as much, and also, as a photographer you have to angle the mirror in a certain way to make sure you can see the reflection without being in the shot yourself. We tried the mirror at both sides and I like the results of both compositions.
And that's all from me for today. There was another photographer on this shoot with us, called John Duder. I'll be doing a blog post with some of the images he captured that day at some point in the future, so make sure that you keep coming back every Monday to see the latest blog post!
And if you haven't already seen, my 2026 calendars are now available to buy in the shop section of this site. There are two versions to choose from, featuring some of my favourite images from this year: Art Nude and Abstract Art. Obviously, I think you should go and buy a copy if you haven't already!
Until next Monday,
Misuzu x

Great words and pictures as always! Am looking forward to my calendars arriving later on in the week 🫠
