Misuzu Photography: Castle
Hello and happy Monday. We are finally into July, which means we are half way through 2026 already. But more importantly, it's my birthday month! Yey.
Today I'm sharing some of my own photography from a trip I took in September last year (yes, I'm very behind on my editing). I was in Wales and went to Harlech Castle. I love castles, and photographing them is a lot of fun. I really enjoyed editing these too, opting for mostly black and white for that old timey vibe... because, you know, castles are really old.
Black and White
To start, here are some wider shots of the outside of the castle. It's not a huge castle but it looks really cool and I'm really pleased with these images.
And here are some from the inside. The first image here is my favourite, taken looking up one of the turrets. I love how the darkness gets more intense as you get closer to the bottom of the image, and it offers an interesting perspective. The second image was taken looking down on the courtyard and you can see the remains of some of the interior walls, which I think is really cool. The other two images here show the inside walls taken from ground level.
To finish up this section are some close ups from bits inside the castle. Firstly, the stairs that were dark and steep and slippy. Taking a toddler up those stairs was nerve-wracking to say the least... but I did manage to get some photos while she was under strict instructions to not move for a few seconds. Again, it's the way the light falls off in this image that I love about it. The second image was taken out of one of the windows as I tried to capture the way the light was highlighting the edges of the stone. And the third image is of the big wooden door as you first go in to the castle.
Stones
If you've been following my blog for a while, you'll have noticed that I really love working with a shallow depth of field. In these images, I was photographing stones that I thought looked cool or had interesting textures. The third one kind of looks like a frog to me.
I really love these next images of some of the stone work, especially the first one shooting up into one of the corners.
It was raining when we visited Harlech Castle and in one place there was a huge muddy puddle across the floor where there were loads of round stones. I tried to get more images here but there was hardly any light. I managed to get a couple though, and I particularly like the wider shot that includes the puddle. The sticks in the bottom left sort of look like a sword to me, which I think adds to the image, because it's a castle.
Plants
Something I really enjoy seeing is where plants have decided to try to take back control. The little plants growing out of small cracks in the stones look really pretty and they photograph beautifully. Here are a few little plants I captured. I especially like the one with raindrops on it.
Anyway, that's all from me for today. I look forward to sharing more of my work with you next Monday.

Absolutely fantastic shots that capture the majesty of the castle overall and beautifully celebrate all the textures within it!
