Misuzu Photography: Stone Circle

Updated: Jan 12

Happy Monday!

This week, I'm giving you a break from modelling photos and bringing you some of my own photography. Back in September I went to Wales for a couple of days. I really wanted to check out the stone circle just outside of Porthmadog. It's a modern stone circle, built in 1987 but it's still pretty cool nonetheless. It features 12 stones around a central stone known as the Logan Stone, with one of the 12 stones oriented to the midsummer sunrise, and one oriented to the midwinter sunrise, similar to the ancient stone circles. It was a really cool place to hang out for a bit.

Here are some of the images I got there on my Fuji X-Pro1 on a cloudy September morning.

The Circle

Here is a wide shot of the stone circle. I think I prefer the black and white version, but as I used that for the featured image on this post, I thought I would include the colour version in this post so that I could use both.

Close Up

I'm not sure if anyone reading this will remember any of my photography work from my old website, but I used to love taking close up images of lichen and moss with my macro lens. I didn't have it with me unfortunately, but it wasn't going to stop me from trying. These shots would have been better with a macro lens but I'm still pleased with the ones I got.

Stones

I spent a fair amount of time wandering around and photographing each of the rocks (in between making sure Pixie wasn't up to anything she shouldn't have been, and supervising her taking photos on her own little camera) and here are a couple of my favourite ones:

I really love this shot with the flower in focus and the stone out of focus in the background. Shallow depth of field is really fun to play around with, and for me, especially when you make the focus of the image something smaller in the frame. If you look closely, you can see some sort of little bug on the flower too!

Clover

The dew on the grass looked really pretty, especially in the patches of clover. Here are a few images I managed to capture. No four leaf clovers through, unfortunately.

The Logan Stone

I wish that I'd taken more photos of the Logan Stone in the centre, but I didn't take many (mostly because that's where Pixie decided to sit for most of the time we were there). I did get one shot that I really like though:

Bee

Look how cute this little guy is:

Just as we were leaving, I noticed a little friend on the car window so obviously I had to take some pictures of him. Google lens tells me it's a honey bee. Pixie was very excited about it, and it stayed on the window the entire drive back into the centre of Porthmadog, which I thought was very impressive. I love these photos mostly for the reflection you can see. I really wish I'd taken my macro lens with me because I could have got some even better images, but I'm still happy with the ones I got. Thanks Mr Bee for being such a perfect model!

Selfie

Incase you were missing my face, here's a selfie I took that day. I didn't take any by myself apparently so here's one where Pixie was refusing to face the camera and look cute with me.
