Misuzu Photography: A Winter Walk

Happy Monday!

January is finally over and we are into February. Hopefully you've all had a wonderful start to the year. It's been pretty exciting for me because last month I launched the membership area of my site. Membership comes with a special monthly members only blog post and extra benefits like a discount on booking me and some little thank you gifts for recurring members. You can join the Misuzu Members with plans starting at £5 per month by clicking here. Special thanks to the current members for helping to support me :)

Anyway, on to today's post where I am bringing you some of my own photography from a lovely winter walk in December with my Fuji X-Pro1.

Moss

Something I want to do more of this year is macro photography. I don't have a macro lens for this camera yet so I'm going to save up for one as soon as possible because I absolutely adore macro photography.

Here are some images of moss that I managed to get without a macro lens. I really like how they came out and I like moss almost as much as I like ferns...

Grass

Another thing I enjoy taking photos of is grass, especially when it's covered in dew. There's just something really pretty about it. I did look like a bit of a weirdo though trying to get these images when people were walking past with their dogs though...

Berries

Berries with dew on them also look really wonderful and photograph beautifully. They look super wintery because of the quality of the light and the bare branches.

A little further on the walk, these wonderful berries caught my eye. I could have stayed and photographed them for ages!

I found out by googling after I took these that they are known as the 'beauty berry' which makes sense to me as they're the most gorgeous colour, especially on a dreary winter's day.

Leaves

In terms of colour, autumn leaves have wonderful colour. I enjoy modelling in autumn because my skin tone really complements the fallen leaves well so it makes for some beautiful art nude images (even if they're harder to capture because it's bloody cold). In my own photography, I enjoy using the colour of the leaves too. Especially in these next couple of images where the leaves were on a rusted train track which added to the colour theme.

With ivy being an evergreen plant, it's something I find myself photographing year round as you always get unique images due to the way it climbs. In the second image I liked the contrast between the straight lines of the fence and the natural lines of the branches.

Landscapes

Landscape photography is something I've never really been all that interested in, or very good at. I prefer my images to have more of an obvious focal point (which is why I enjoy shooting flowers and fungi and buildings) so I struggle to compose landscapes.

I gave it a go anyway and these next two black and white images are my favourite landscapes from that day. I think I like these ones so much because of the lines leading the eye diagonally across the images.

These next two are the type of image I'm not usually very good at capturing. When I first loaded them onto my computer, I wasn't overly happy with them. I decided to have a go at editing them anyway to see if I would like them more afterwards. I'm quite pleased with how these came out by creating a blue colour cast on the first one and a green colour cast on the second. For me, these images looked a lot better with some unnatural colour in there, as well as the use of diagonal lines again.

And finally, some animals because animals make any image better! I really love this one with the ducks. I was initially framing the image just around the ducks and it wasn't until I got an image I was happy with and stopped to look up. I thought the scene was really pretty and so tried to capture it as a wider image and I'm pleased with the result. The second image I just liked because it's kinda spooky.

Lens Ball

The last set of images I took that day involved the lens ball. I always have it with my camera because I think it's just a kind of magic (even though I know it's science, but the effect is just wild to me). You can get some interesting images with it, and in the past I've even used it in self portraits.

When I was playing around with the lens ball on the tracks, I couldn't get the effect I was going for but I love these images nonetheless with the lovely orange and brown colours.

I was playing around with the lens ball again when I was photographing the moss and trying to merge it with a landscape. The first image captured some of the moss as well, which I thought was cool, and then in the second one I was shooting up at the ball to capture the landscape in there. Again, I looked like a bit of a weirdo crouched down trying to get that image.

Of course I had to rotate one of the lens ball images so that the landscape was the right way up and the rest of the image was not, because everyone knows that Misuzu loves images that are a bit weird.

Obligatory Fern Picture

Finally, I saw some ferns, so I had to take a picture!

And that's all from me for this week. I hope you liked these images and I look forward to bringing you another blog post next Monday, featuring more of my modelling work!
