Spooky Season: Plastic
Hello and Spooky Monday!!
It's Halloween week (hooray) and today I'm bringing you some cool art nude images taken with me behind a thin sheet of plastic. Basically, some classic art nude meets a Dexter Morgan vibe. As with last week's post, these images were taken by the fantastic Dave Edkins.
As soon as he got out the plastic and started to hang it up on a backdrop stand, I knew it was going to produce some lovely results. We shot with it as a background in another set on black background, then moved it onto the white background to shoot with me behind it. It worked so well and produced many wonderful images.
I tried to vary the editing style with this set because there were so many shots I loved. I knew it would be a pretty boring post if they were all the same, so I tried to mix it up a bit.
Here we go, some art nude of me behind a thin sheet of plastic!
Light
This first couple are high key and not really Halloweeny at all because they're just quite pretty and feminine. They are very striking images and highlights that you can use one set or prop to produce a huge variety of images.
Dark
Next up are a couple of darker shots. These are way moodier and have a much stronger spooky vibe with the hands on the plastic. I'm sure I talked about it last year but hands flat to the camera like that usually looks awful unless you're shooting something spooky or weird, then it just works really well.
Monochrome
Of course I had to have a play around with some black and white edits! I chose one pose that looks a bit spookier with the hand on the plastic peering through, and one that just makes a lovely implied nude shot. In these two shots, the plastic seems to make them look like they are old photographs, rather than a prop that was used while shooting. I love the effect it gives.
Blue
Next up is a cool blue tone that I added to shots with similar poses to the two monochrome edits above. I especially love how the blue hue works on the second image, as the cooler tones complement the huddled pose.
Dramatic Posing: Light and Dark Edits
Now for some drama. I messed up my hair and stuck some super weird poses. I was playing with angles and trying to look a little bit deranged. I was having way more fun with it that maybe I should have, but it was really cool to be posing so differently to my usual style. We fired off some shots and then Dave adjusted the lighting, so there were some slightly darker and some slightly lighter images, which I have exaggerated in the editing.
Here are the lighter, more contrasty edits. I particularly love the middle image where the focus was on the plastic and not on me as it works nicely in the theme. In these shots, there is more glare on the plastic so it's more obvious in the photo, which I like a lot as it makes the theme more apparent.
Last in this section is one of my favourites from the set, a close up shot!

Colour Vs Monochrome Portraits
And finally, some colour vs black and white! I love this first image where, as mentioned above, the monochrome makes the texture of the plastic just look like imperfections on an old photograph. I think I prefer the monochrome here for that reason.
And then saving the best for last, as I think this is my favourite shot of the entire set... the close up portrait of me grabbing at the plastic. The monochrome is also my preference here, but I do love how striking the colour version is too.
And that's all from me for today. I hope you've enjoyed looking through these images and I hope you have a wonderful Halloween. The next subscriber blog post will come out a little later than usual so I can post it on Halloween... and also, I will make it available to read for free for a week after it's published so definitely look out for that one!
