Spooky Season is Here Again
Hello and Happy Monday!
As Halloween is approaching and the Halloween group shoot is this weekend, I am getting quite excited about shooting some spooky stuff. I thought it was time for a blog post with some of my favourite spooky images from last year before I have something new to share with you. Here are my top ten favourite edits from last year's Halloween shoots taken by Dave Edkins!
10: An Outtake
Sometimes you have to get those silly shots, and sometimes they really work! I love this shot because it sums up what it's like working with me: you'll get the shots you want but you'll have to deal with lots of silly moments along the way!

9: A Nude
We weren't shooting classic art nudes on the Halloween shoot last year, and this was intended as a test for the lighting before I covered myself in blood. It was lovely lighting for a nude set as it turns out and we got a couple of lovely shots while setting the lights up.

8: Some Tape
I really enjoyed making a top from caution tape. I used a different kind of tape and wrapped it slightly differently each time we did it, which was a total of three times. I think this one was my favourite design out of the three, and it produced some of my favourite portraits too!

7: Dexter Vibes
Cover the area with clear plastic and get covered in blood and you have a Dexter Morgan kill room. I love this image because it combines a classic implied nude pose with the gore of a horror shoot in a way that works well.

6: Gel Portrait
I've mentioned before that I quite like images that remind you they were shot in a studio by having the lighting in shot. I don't know why I like these shots as much as I do, but I do. Anyway, this is one that I really liked where the lighting was a red gel one side and blue gel the other. I think the expression here makes the image though.

5: The Barn
We had to make use of the barn setting that Amy made all spooky for Halloween, and the next few images I am sharing with you were all taken in the barn. This shot, I love because it makes you think about the story behind it and what led up to the image that was taken. I enjoy images that make you come up with questions or your own story as the viewer.

4: Morticia
There was just something about this dress that made me think of Morticia Adams. Also the long dark hair helped complete the look of course. I edited this image to be very high contrast and in monochrome to add to the effect and everything about this image feels dramatic. Even the skeleton's expression is a bit extra...

3: A Barn Nude
This image was included in my calendar for October because it has Halloween vibes but without it being over the top with the theme. I just really enjoy how this classic nude looks with the lighting and the pose working very well together!

2: A Creepy Portrait
This image was taken when we had the gels set up with the tape top. The fact that you can't see my eyes really works well in this image making it a perfect image for Halloween. Adding in contrast made it feel more eerie and creepy and there's just something that draws me in. Also, the two colours work well together in my hair and the smoke in the background.

1: Blood
And finally, my favourite image from last year's Halloween shoot! The very dramatic and contrasty blood portrait. I enjoyed getting completely covered in blood and I hope to do it again this year... it was really fun to shoot and we got some absolutely amazing images. This was my favourite of the lot though, because it seems to add a level of grace to an otherwise quite disturbing image. That kind of juxtaposition really draws me in.

Bonus: Another Outtake
And as is Misuzu tradition, here is an outtake to finish up. I probably do need caution tape over my mouth sometimes... :D

That's all from me for today so stay safe out there, and enjoy the spooky season. More to come soon!
Until next Monday,
Misuzu x

Some truly fantastic pictures and I can't wait to see what you create during this spooky season!
