Spooky Season 2026
Hello and Happy Monday!
It's getting super close to Halloween now and over the weekend, me and Dave Edkins ran our annual Halloween group shoot. It was super fun and ended with me covered in fake blood again, which is always my favourite part. I'm definitely feeling the spooky season take hold now the weather is a bit colder and the evenings are darker. It's time for hot chocolates and horror movies for sure.
Today I wanted to share a couple of sets from the Halloween shoot me and Dave did a couple of weeks ago. First I will be sharing some portraits with you that we shot in a skull dress using some black netting to get an interesting effect. Then I will share some beauty dish portraits with you that used a super cool piece of jewellery.
Black Netting
The netting you can see in these images is actually a cape that we were using as a sort of veil. We ended up with loads of wonderful images from this set by just messing around and seeing what interesting things we could do with it.
I often use my hands in my modelling, and when you have a veil like this it lends itself to getting the hands involved. Like the images above, they can add a bit of softness as though the hands are being used to almost hide behind... but they can also add some drama like in the images below where they are fists pulling at the material.
In these next few images, you can see how the expression used vastly changes the vibe of the image. The first one looks more scared and worried, the second looks serene and calm, then the third has an intensity and almost anger to it. Each image tells a completely different story.
I had to include some colour vs monochrome edits in this post, obviously. These were two of my favourite poses from this set. I love that you can see the smoke more clearly in the colour versions, but the monochrome feel more creepy to me which is what you want in a Halloween image.
And the last image in this set is one of my favourite edits: I went for a more gritty editing style with this and I feel like it works really well for this image.

Claw
I have no idea what to even call the jewellery used in these shots. It was essentially a bracelet with nail rings attached to it. It looked really cool in these images taken with the beauty dish. This first one is my favourite:

It was a lot of fun playing around with different poses and positioning the nails. It worked quite well with my hand on my face in various unnatural ways, sometimes digging into my skin making more shadows and adding some drama to the image.
We also played around with concealing parts of the face with a flat hand which worked nicely, especially paired with various different expressions too. The flat hand caused shadows on the face which makes these images quite interesting.
I love all the negative space in this next image, as well as the shot being a little wider to include the hand without the jewellery on in the shot too. I really like how the shadow from the hand falls across my face here.

And last but not least, here is a wonderfully silly outtake for you :P

Thanks for taking the time to look through these images with me today :) Until next Monday, stay creepy and enjoy the spooky season!

I'm not a Halloween person at all, but I love the results. Dave has posted a mono version of your favourite with the glove nails (or a similar shot with veil) and I'd love to see it as a book cover... Quite outstanding.
