Hi everyone and Happy Monday!
As yesterday was International Women's Day, I thought it would be fitting to write this week's post about one of my favourite female photographers to work with. I've always said that working with female photographers is just different. There's something about that feminine energy from behind the camera that seems to create something unique. Typically, the vast majority of people behind the camera are male (just like the vast majority of those in front of it are female) so I always get extra excited to work with other women.
This blog post is about Rhianne Louise and I first met her when she came to a workshop I did with Dave Edkins. Before the workshop, Dave had told me that I would really enjoy working with Rhianne and that he thought we would get some fantastic images together. And as always, he was right.
Rhianne is a very lovely human in herself anyway, but she's very talented behind the camera and super creative (as you will see by the end of this post) and we seemed to click immediately and started to create some wonderful art together from the very start.
You can find Rhianne on PurplePort and Instagram if you want to go and give her a follow. I think you should go and do that immediately, but if you aren’t convinced then I'm sure you will be by the end of this blog.
Anyway, on to the images. All of these images were taken on workshops ran by myself and Dave over the past year: the first two shoots were at The Kiln, and the rest are from ARB Studio. It is worth pointing out with this post being in honour of IWD, that ARB is also owned by a wonderful woman!
April 2025
To start, here are some lovely portraits from our first session together. As you will see throughout this post, me and Rhianne work together to shoot some very striking images and this has been the case from the get go.
My face isn't in this next image but I absolutely love the idea that Rhianne came up with: to wear my battered converse on one foot with a chunky black heel on the other. We experimented with different positions of my feet and it definitely worked best to mimic the shape of the heel with the right foot and I love the final result.

After having Rhianne at the first workshop, I was already excited to work with her again as I was sure we would go on to create even better images each time. I wasn’t wrong.
May 2025
The following month, we did another workshop that focussed on implied nude and art nude. Rhianne arrived with some really great ideas. She explained the sort of shape she wanted and then we developed the idea together to create these images by varying the pose slightly:
Next, we shot these anonymous abstract images of just my feet and legs. Coming back to the fact that this post is about a female photographer... shooting this kind of pose takes a lot of trust for obvious reasons, and that trust comes a lot more easily when you’re shooting with another woman! I think Rhianne definitely did these images justice with her photography and editing style:
July 2025
In July, we shot this fantastic image. I couldn't decide which version I preferred, so I included both. The dress I was wearing was asymmetrical and only had one sleeve, so we recreated half face idea from our first shoot, but used the dress to maximise the constrast between covered/uncovered:
Rhianne has a great style that captures such lovely soft, very feminine portraits like this next image with the pearls. And then we experimented with seated art nude but using sheer material to make it more implied and I really love the effect we got. One of the reasons me and Rhianne work so well together is that we both adore the dark and moody shots!
August 2025
In August, Rhianne came to a smoke and gels workshop that we ran and we explored with a blue gel on mylar (shiny silver stuff) and made some shapes. It was a lot of fun and we got some more wonderfully abstract images. The middle image in particular takes a fair amount of teamwork to get it right and I think we nailed it. I wrote a post last year about shape work and you can read it by clicking here if you’re interested in that more abstract work.
December 2025
Fast forward from summer to Christmas (Rhianne couldn't come to the Halloween events I did... rude of her to have a life outside of shooting with me really) and we captured some lovely festive images. You'll have already seen similar shots of in my various Christmas blog posts throughout December as they were the sets we did on our Christmas themed group shoots, but these two are ones Rhianne shot that day:
And this next image was one she specifically said she wanted to shoot, and I really love how it turned out:

February 2026
For our first shoot of 2026 and the latest time we were in the studio together, Rhianne came to a workshop we did that focussed on using a beauty dish. I knew Rhianne in particular would get some amazing images from these sets because of how much we both adore low key images. We had a wonderful time creating together and the results didn't disappoint at all.
After shooting some super moody images, we removed the grid from the beauty dish, and got this shot. Again it just has a super feminine quality to it:

After we had played around with more classic shots to experiment with how the beauty dish works, started to get more creative: Rhianne liked the idea of using the material of the dress as a feature in the images,, so we just tried various weird poses and positions. This was the end result:
Finally, we used the big stretchy sock thing at the end of the workshop. I was excited to do this with Rhianne because I knew we would get some lovely results and I wasn't wrong:
Happy International Women’s Day to all the amazing women out there! Thank you for reading this week’s blog and go follow Rhianne on Instagram before you forget! I look forward to writing a new blog ready for next Monday :)
