Ferns and Ferns and Ferns

Hello and Happy Monday :D

I'm not sure how much I've talked about it on my blog so far but I bloody love ferns. Totally obsessed with them. So here is a blog post with some ferny images taken by Dave Edkins recently on a location shoot. It's been so bloody hot this week, so this blog is quite a brief one.

Ferns

Here are a few of the shots we took early on into the shoot. We saw an amazing patch of ferns that I just had to get in. And I'm glad I did because the images we captured there were wonderful.

Monochrome

A bit later on, we found the same fallen tree that we used last year (if you bought my calendar, one of the images from last year was in that). The photos we captured here this year were just as lovely as the ones from before... Maybe even more so, because there were even more ferns this time. Here are a couple of the images that I decided looked best in monochrome.

Desaturated

One of the things I love the most about ferns is their colour. But when editing these images, I experimented a bit with desaturating the colour a little to give a darker and more moody vibe. I think it worked really well for these images, especially with the ferns being as thick as they were. I particularly love the viewpoint Dave used on the second image, shooting up through the ferns with a shallow depth of field. I think it worked really well.

These next two images show me in a sea of ferns. The desaturation gives an otherworldly or timeless feel to them that I adore.

Three Edits

For the last image in this blog post, instead of my usual colour vs monochrome... today we have colour versus slightly desaturated versus monochrome so you can really see the difference that these editing choices make on an image.

I really like the high contrast and bright greens in the first edit, but I think overall for this image I have to go with the last one.

And that's all from me for today. I hope you've been able to escape the worst of the heat and stayed hydrated. Until next Monday!
