Two Old Outfits

Hello and Happy Monday!

This week I'm going to be showing you some images taken by Dave Edkins at a location shoot we did in the woods at the end of last week. It was kind of by accident but I ended up packing two old outfits that I hadn't shot in for ages and we happened to use both of them. I have had both of these bits of clothing since I started modelling, they've lived in my bag of modelling stuff and I've used them a lot over the years. It was nice to get them out again and still create new and lovely images with them.

As always, here are Dave's links: Instagram, Threads, PurplePort and E-photozine. Aaaaaand he shoots on a Nikon D850. The images in this post were edited by me. Let's take a look at them.

Terracotta Playsuit

This first outfit looks so good in the woodland. I think firstly because it's evidently not something a normal person would wear into the woods, so it adds a bit of intrigue as to why that person is in that setting creating more of a story to the image. But secondly, the earthy terracotta colour just fits in so well with all the colours of the forest. I really love how these came out.

It surprised me that this worked so well in black and white too. I have a few colour vs black and white comparisons from this set to share with you shortly.

We also shot some really lovely portraits here, and I know I've said it in these blog posts a lot, but Dave just has a wonderful way of capturing me in portraits.

Colour Vs Black and White

First up, a portrait taken in a triangle of branches we found. This shot is cropped in close so you lose the triangle that was framing me, but I love this shot:

Similarly, this next portrait is lovely and works so well in colour as well as monochrome. Shots like this always make me wonder what the model is looking at and what the story is behind the shot. Usually in reality it's not so glamorous when you're the model or the photographer, but with some imagination, you could come up with a cool story behind images like this.

And to finish this section, my favourite shot from this set, and one that I definitely love the colour version for. I love everything about this image, the pose, the colours and the framing.

Open Front Shirt

Moving on to the second outfit: this is an open front kimono style shirt, cardigan thing (I'm so good at explaining clothing aren't I). Anyway, this one is great for more implied or fashion nude type images, and it also worked really well when I was pregnant because it framed my baby bump perfectly. It has neutral tones so goes pretty much anywhere and it's a thin but heavy material so it hangs really nicely.

For these images at the very end of our shoot, we were using portable, inflatable lights mostly just to try them out. We found a reasonably dark and shady part of the woods to shoot in, and it helped that it had clouded over and was about to rain.

I loved how these turned out, because it's definitely something different. The quality of light you get from artificial light isn't something you see a lot of in woodland location photography. Although a lot of people have speed lights or use on camera flash, it never looks very nice (in my opinion). But this added a wonderful glow that gives an almost ethereal quality to the images which complimented the natural setting.

Again, these images feel like they have a story to them, possibly because of the contrast of the unusual light in nature.

Colour Vs Black and White

For both of these colour vs black and white comparisons, I think I prefer the black and white versions overall, but you lose the effect of the unusual lighting and they look more like an image you could capture in the woods on a sunny day anyway.

This last image is my favourite of this set. It feels wonderfully feminine.

Outtake

And as always, I'd like to end on an outtake... A shot including the tiny helper we had with us on the shoot!

And that's all from me for today! I look forward to sharing more with you soon :)
