Misuzu Photography: Winter Lights

Happy Monday to you! I hope that January has been productive for you so far, and that you've kept all of your resolutions.

This week, I'm bringing you a blog post of some of my photography. These images were taken on my Fuji X-Pro 1 in December 2025. They are images from two winter light trails I took my daughter to. I love taking photographs of lights like this because you can get some really pretty images from it.

On both occasions, I didn't take as many photos using my camera as I'd have liked to: partially because I was supervising my over-excited toddler, and partially because it was cold and a little bit rainy. Also, I didn't want to spend the entire time looking at the lights through the camera, because sometimes it's nice to just experience things without desperately trying to capture them.

Magical Woodland: Blakemere

This first image is a snowflake gobo pointed at the woodland floor. I had to edit out a few bits where the floor was uneven and reflected too much of the light back because they distracted from the overall image. Pixie liked dancing in the light here as they were moving and there was music playing, but I managed to get a few pictures in between her running around in the light.

I really loved this light tunnel where there was smoke coming out of the lights. Because it was cold and a bit rainy, the fog hung around and looked super mysterious and magical! I did have to edit a shadowy Pixie out of the middle of this image (sorry kid!)

Here is a close up of one of the lights with the fog. Of course I chose to capture the pink one because it was my favourite.

There were quite a few lanterns at various point on the light trail. I've always thought lanterns are really pretty and cool, plus they photograph really nicely.

Here is an image from another light tunnel: it was hard to get a photograph of the entire tunnel as it was quite busy. These places are great for selfies and family photos, so people spend a lot longer hanging around these bits. I tried to get creative with the angle and shoot along one side of it. I'm really happy with how this came out.

Before I move on to some more images from a different light trail, I just wanted to include an image and a video of my absolute favourite bit of the Magical Woodland. For me it was the most mesmerising bit as the idea behind it was so simple: it was just disco balls that moved up and down to music, but the effect was beautiful. Me and Pixie stood watching it for aaaaages. Part of me wishes I had got my camera out instead of just getting a quick video and a few phone pictures, but in all honesty, it was nice to just experience it with my daughter as we were both completely captivated.

I also got to hold a magnificent owl so here is a phone picture of that too!

Winter Light Trail: Trentham

I didn't take as many photos of the Trentham light trail as a lot of it was selfie opportunities or things to experience. It was truly beautiful though and we had a wonderful time there. These images are all from the same bit that was essentially a big tree with lots of different coloured light bulbs hanging in it. On closer inspection, each light was unique, so of course, I had to get some photos of them and I love how these all turned out.

Part of the Trentham light trail that I wish I'd photographed was one bit where you walk through strings of ball lights that changed colour. Pixie loved playing in that bit and to be honest, so did I. We got some cute selfies in that bit, but here's a photo to show you what it looked like (with a blurry Pixie in the background) and a quick video of her running through it. I probably could have got some lovely photos here but there was mulled wine the other side and that was more of a priority.

That's all from me for this week. I hope these images brought some light to a dull January day, and I hope that you enjoy the rest of your week. I look forward to talking to you next Monday.
