Self Portrait Throwback: 2016/17

Hello to my lovely subscribers!
This month's post is a throwback to some self portraits I took a decade ago. It seems wild to me that these were taken such a long time ago, as some of my favourite self portraits are here. Self portraiture is something that I've always enjoyed doing because it gives me full creative control over the whole process from start to finish: ideas, modelling, photography and editing. Doing it all yourself comes with a lot of challenges, but I enjoy that aspect of it all too. Being able to set the lights up, focus the camera, be in the right place and take the pictures (and still make them good) is so tricky but it's so much fun!
Towards the end of 2016, I'd been modelling for nearly 2 years (I started in January 2015) and I set up a home studio using my dad's studio lighting. Obviously the first thing I did was play around with self portraits before I let anyone else come in to use it, so I'm going to share the images from that session with you. Then I have some taken in early 2017 when I expanded on the first set and have a play around with some abstract ideas (we all know Misuzu loves the weird stuff). Then to finish up this post (and it's the reason why I decided to write this post for February) is some images I did for Valentine's Day in 2017.
I hope you enjoy going back in time with me: I like looking back and seeing how much I've changed as a model (both physically and in my modelling skill/ability) and a photographer (in terms of the technical side of it, as well as my editing ability and style). I did consider going back and re-editing some of these images but I decided against it. I think it's actually better to keep them as I had wanted them to be back then, even if they're not perfect or as good as I could make them now. It's nice to have that record of progress to look back on... I chose to preserve that rather than perfect it.
